Software Engineer

Role Statement:

There is now an exciting new opportunity available to join the team at Yahoo!7 and be part of this international online giant!

Our media engineering team works closely with the production and design teams to engineer the media properties that make up the core of Yahoo!7's user-facing services. News, sport, travel, movies, music, video content, TV sites? the list goes on (and on). You will be dealing with feeds, databases, web server-side scripting and batch processing. Expect a varied and entertaining life in this position!

The Software Engineer is responsible for turning the design and vision of a potential site into a reality that forms part of the world-class site that is Yahoo!7. You will be responsible for the project plan, design, development, testing and maintenance of some of these key properties.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Designing, developing and/or deploying software components in an efficient, secure, and sustainable manner
2. Managing projects from inception to completion, keeping to strict timelines
3. Writing clear and concise documentation
4. Working with yahoos from across the company including production, customer care, marketing, and sales to provide technical input, understand requirements and generally ensure the appropriateness of any technical solutions
5. Liaising with regional & global counterparts in order to minimise duplication of efforts
6. Platform product APIs are efficient to use, and documentation easy to understand
7. Maximal re-use of platforms where appropriate, or alternatively, minimised duplication of effort across the broader engineering team
8. High quality work delivered on time and on specification

Skills/Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
• 2 years work experience on software engineering projects, preferably Internet/web related
• Solid understanding of the operating environment, programming languages and protocols that are used day-to-day include PHP, Unix, Apache, MySQL, HTTP, TCP/IP
• Skills that will be considered an asset (but not essential): Perl, C, C++, FreeBSD
• Demonstrated communication & teamwork abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task effectively

Senior Software QA Engineer

Role Statement

Based out of our Sydney office, this is an exciting role within a dynamic testing organisation at the leading edge of the internet. We are looking for a seasoned test expert that will help drive the testing approach for Yahoo!7 moving forward. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of a wide range of technologies and test techniques that power the internet. While management experience for this role is not critical, it would be advantageous. Excellent people skills are a must.,

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Software QA Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

• Deliver an effective test approach to Yahoo!7 property and platforms. Provide guidance and advise on the test approaches to interested parties and key stakeholders.
• Design property and platform test plans, utilising test automation where appropriate. Work with the programme office to deliver task breakdown and duration estimates.
• When required, design and drive the implementation of automated test harnesses and test scripts. Wherever possible, leverage existing Yahoo! test tools and automation frameworks.
• Perform test execution and defect entry and tracking.
• Report on test status for projects underway. Provide test completion reports to summarise the test findings and recommendations.
• Act as a strong advocate for quality in the product development process. Interact and work with the International Test Strategy team to ensure that local practises are aligned with Yahoo! international engineering standards.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Internet software engineering experience.
• Solid experience and exposure to a variety of test disciplines such as test automation, performance testing and test design.
• Proven track record of delivering high quality internet properties/products.
• Excellent working knowledge of software development processes including Agile methods.
• Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to energize and persuade colleagues.
• Innovative and creative thinker, good at adapting to change.
• Experience of a range of technology and programming languages (PHP, JavaScript, HTML, AJAX)
• Experience of working in a variety of OS environments. MAC OSX, Windows and Redhat.

Service Engineering Manager

Role Statement

Yahoo!7 is seeking a Systems Administration Manager to lead and maximise service quality through the use of best practices. Your strong technical background combined with your keen interest in providing the best possible user experience will have you striving for continual improvements in service availability and process consistency. This role would ideally suit a techie with a strong end-user focus, someone who isn't happy with "good enough" but also takes into account business realities. Tweaking a service to squeeze an extra 5% performance would excite you just as much as developing a repeatable deployment process that doesn't drive the rest of the development team crazy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure services meet performance & availability criteria, including disaster recovery planning, deploying monitoring & interpreting monitoring data
• Ensure reliability of services through release, change & configuration management processes
• Work with operations on capacity and infrastructure planning
• Liaise with regional and global service engineering teams to ensure consistency of processes where appropriate
• Communicate with senior management to ensure there is executive understanding & support of Service Engineering goals
• Perform backups and restores, deploy and utilise supporting tools, perform server/system upgrades
• Troubleshoot & escalate service issues as required, which includes on-call responsibilities

Skills/Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years experience in Internet software development and/or systems administration, preferably in a high-volume Internet environment
• Solid understanding of the operating environment, programming languages and protocols that are used day-to-day: Unix (FreeBSD and/or Linux [RHEL]), Apache, Squid, MySQL, Perl, PHP, HTTP, TCP/IP
• Experience utilising ITIL best practices in service and application management is highly desirable
• Strong planning, communication & teamwork abilities are essential along with an exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task effectively

Account Manager

You will be driving engagement and education to facilitate online media investment through your significant relationships within media agencies.

In order to be considered for this role you must have proven experience in advertising sales with relevant contacts within the industry. You must be able to develop partnerships with agencies to increase revenue spend.
