Australia's Best Online Marketers Recognised at Sold Out Event. SYDNEY, October 4, 2001 SYDNEY, Australia. More than 600 people attended the fourth annual Awwwards last night to recognise Australia's best online marketing campaigns. A record number of entries, 198 in total, were reviewed by an industry-representative judging panel. Presented by B&T Weekly and Yahoo! Australia & NZ, and sponsored by ninemsn and News Interactive, the Awwwards highlighted the measurable results and successes mainstream marketers are receiving through the medium. "It's been exciting to see mainstream marketers really begin forging their own way in terms of online marketing this year," said Lara Sinclair, Editor, B&T Weekly. "The number and standard of entries has really improved despite the general downturn in the advertising sector, which means that the Internet is really beginning to be understood and used creatively as a marketing medium." Winning campaigns included: Sony Computer Entertainment (PS2 and Chase the Express), ninemsn (Getaway Treasure Hunt), Intel Australia (Pentium 4), Coca Cola South Pacific (diet Coke), Dingo Blue (Breeding Program) and the NRMA (NRMA.com). Euro RSCG, ION Global, VCD and Hyro Media, Tequila Sydney and Whybin Lawrence TBWA, and Saatchi & Saatchi were the winning agencies. "The overall quality of the finalists' campaigns were outstanding and reflected the growing sophistication of marketers and agencies using the Internet as a strategic medium," said Nic Jones, Managing Director, Yahoo! Australia & NZ. "What shone through was the representation of strong brands amongst the finalists such as Sony, diet Coke, Mars, Paddle Pop and Nestle who have enhanced their traditional offline presence by harnessing the interactivity of the Internet to build deeper relationships with their consumers."
