eBay to become Yahoo! Australia & NZ's Preferred Online Auction Marketplace
SYDNEY, 6 August 2003 - Yahoo! Australia & NZ (www.yahoo.com.au), a leading local provider of consumer and business services today announced a significant marketing relationship with eBay, Australia's online auction and fixed price marketplace. Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, eBay will advertise throughout the Yahoo! Australia & NZ network. Together, the two companies will develop an extensive marketing campaign that will include a wide range of creative online marketing solutions. In addition, eBay will be named and featured as the preferred online auction marketplace on Yahoo! Australia & NZ. The marketing relationship between the two companies was developed following Yahoo! Australia & NZ's decision earlier this year to suspend its auction service SOLD.com.au. The decision was consistent with Yahoo!'s company-wide approach to focus on areas that will drive long-term growth and profitability, for example, Yahoo!'s new small business offerings, sponsored search and the new Yahoo! Australia & NZ Personals. All of SOLD.com.au's staff and resources will be redeployed toward key growth areas in the company. Auction services across the rest of the Yahoo! global network are not affected by this agreement. "This is a great move for Yahoo! Australia & NZ as it allows us to focus our efforts on growth, new initiatives, our marketing services for small through to large businesses and the Yahoo! brand," said Clifford Rosenberg, managing director, Yahoo! Australia & NZ. SOLD.com.au will no longer accept new submissions for sale, though all current auctions will be able to run to conclusion. The service will then be suspended within two weeks. Yahoo! Australia & NZ will ensure that affected auctions users are kept well informed of any developments.
