Online TV show helps singles find love in time for Valentine’s Day
According to extensive research conducted by Yahoo! Personals in America and the UK, January 11 is International Break Up Day. Whether it’s the hangover from Christmas, or new years resolutions kicking in, the research discovered couples are more likely to call it quits during January than any other month with the eleventh day the most popular for throwing in the towel.
If you find yourself newly single as a result of International Break Up Day, you will no doubt be painfully aware there are less than four weeks to get your act together in time to land a date for Valentine’s Day. There could be no better motivation to find love than heart shaped chocolates, Hallmark greeting cards and excruciating anti‐Valentine’s parties.
Even though, technically, you are alone, you can feel safe in the knowledge that you don’t have to go through the transformation alone. In fact, a new online show is dedicated to helping people with your ‘condition’.
That's Why You're Single gives unhappy singles a leg up to, well, getting a leg up. Each week contestants meet a panel of experts who dissect their dating history, attitude and image before diagnosing the appropriate course of action. So far the experts have helped two‐dozen singles and you can watch them in action on

Victims of International Break Up Day suffer from various symptoms including a loss of confidence.
Panellist Donny Galella, fashion stylist and designer, is experienced at prescribing retail therapy and knows that most ailments can be cured with the right accessories. In this case Donny recommends, “Wear a bright colour as it will help you project confidence.”
Julie Hamilton the show’s resident intuitive therapist and counsellor, offers up some tough love to the unloved. “There's nothing attractive about being desperate and dateless. If you want to share your life with someone then that life has to be worth sharing. Work on feeling fabulous, happy and fulfilled and you’ll be irresistible,” she advises.
The show’s third expert, Clint Paddison, has a practical tip for ladies counting down to V‐day. “Splash your neck and cheeks with beer. Most men can smell beer from 5.2 metres so make sure you stand within that proximity. Then smile and wait.”
If this tactic fails, Clint suggests door knocking your neighbourhood in a bikini. “If a hot guy opens the door, tell him you're a Jehovah's Witness so he’ll invite you inside. Then you're on your own.”
As for the blokes, Clint says, “Guys, you can relax and feel no pressure since you have no idea when Valentine’s Day is.” As with most of Clint’s advice, the producers of the show take no responsibility for the outcomes if followed.
If you manage to snare a date for the big night, Donny has the inside scoop on what to wear. “For the ladies, the little black dress is always a winner. Team it up with some sexy heels and a little clutch bag and you can guarantee your chic look will win him over. For the boys a nice pair of dark denim jeans, a well‐cut black long sleeve dress shirt and leather dress shoes will do the trick.”
Even if you get the get‐up right, there’s no guarantee the date will lead to ever lasting love. Julie insists that you don’t take it personally. “If he or she doesn't call back, doesn't feel they have any chemistry with you or behaves badly it’s their issue not yours.” Words of wisdom that will hopefully get us all through to January 11, 2010.
